OTAGO MAKE 166 AGAINST MX.C. WOOLLEY’S BOWLING UPSETS HOME TEAM. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, January 2. With seven wickets down for 143, Otago resumed their innings against the M.C.C. with Alloo (13)-and Dickinson in perfect weather and on an improved wicket. After 35 minutes’ play Otago were all out for 166. Otago, following on, opened their second innings at 12.30, and after a quarter of an hour’s play had lost none for 12 (Knight 3, Dunning 4). Nichols and Worthington opened the bowling for England, whose fielding was very keen. Runs came slowly. Allom replaced Nichols and runs came more quickly. With the total at 22, Dunning hit a ball from Worthington and pulled it into the hands of Earle. 22—1—8. Play again became slow, and at 25 Woolley replaced Worthington. A match for the Brabin Shield, between Wellington under twenty-one jun- , iors and Canterbury juniors under , twenty-one, was commenced at Hagley Park yesterday, and continued to-day. Canterbury batted first and by the time that play was stopped by rain, just before 4 o’clock yesterday, had sevten wickets down for 224 runs. Hamilton (54) and Vincent (87 not out) were the top scorers, Vincent giving a fine dis- - play of vigorous driving. This morn- i ing an early start was made, and Canterbury’s innings closed for 246, Vincent only adding one to his overnight total. Wellington opened quietly, and by noon had lost three wickets for 60 runs. The bowling of Kyle and Fairbairn kept the Wellington men very quiet. Cutts was beautifully stumped by Dunn<ett off Kyle. At 12.15, when the lunch adjournment was called, the score board read 64—4—4. ; Wellington could make little headway against the Canterbury bowlers, who were trundling well, and getting assistance from the wicket. M’Donald and Stephenson put up a stand, till M’Donald was run out. 148—9—11. Kyle was responsible for most of the damage. Bilby did not last long, and the innings closed for 16S. BOYS’ ELEVEN PLAY MALVERN COLTS This morning the Canterbury Boys’ Cricket Association commenced their annual match against the Malvern Association colts team (under twentyone), at the Hospital Corner ground. On resumption Hay went almost immediately, but Burtt and Clark carried the total to 129 before Clark was bowled by a fast one from Westwood.
