TWO KILLED IN MOTOR COLLISION.
CAR AND VAN MEET IN HEAD-ON SMASH. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, January 2. A terrific impact between two motorcars on the Portobello Road at five o'clock on the morning of &ew Year’s Day, resulted in the death of two men and the admission of two others to the hospital. Two other passengers suffered minor injuries. A parcel delivery van and a fiveseater sedan car travelling in the opposite directions came into violent collision on a fairly straight open portion of the road. The killed were:— DAVID VERNON WILKINSON, aged twenty, single, motor mechanic and driver. DAVID EDWARD, aged thirty-five, married, labourer. The men in hospital are:— JAMES TODD, petrol station proprietor. DONALD M’NAUGHTON PATERSON, mechanic. Both are still on the seriously ill ist. The right side of the sedan was badly damaged, the woodwork being reduced to matchwood and the motor van was completely wrecked. The fore axle was wrenched out of position, and the metal work in front and the steering wheel were driven back with considerable force upon the driver, Watkins. James Paterson, driver of the sedan, escaped injury.
