Fashions and Furbelows.

Notes by Special Contributors

FASHION NUGGETS.

Sports costumes maintain the even hemline. Fresh treatments in flares ares

noted. The skirt is being cut higher for the tuck-in which accentuates the normal or high waistline. The skirt length varies from two to four inches below the knee. The shoe for evening wear has reversed its adornment. The thought is now placed entirely on the vamp and front of the shoes the back being entirely hidden by the trailing lines of the skirt. The heels, while plain, have noticeably increased in height. Coats are much longer and are being shown in the loveliest of velvety fabrics, combined with fur. The fur forms a very tight shoulder cape which reaches to the waistline. With this is carried a chic little muff of the same fur. The kitted dress and suit offer some very unusual weaves. These include sharkskin-tweed. Ostrichfeather, honeycomb and herringbone weaves. The outstanding colours are Channel red, Monet blue, English green and various shades of brown. The most interesting accessory of the evening ensemble are the long gloves, which bear the tint of the slipper. They are smartest when in contrast to the gown. The costume slip expresses the high waistline with fitted bodice and flared skirt. Since the adoption of the new silhouette the matter of coat lengths has been left rather open. One may choose three-quarter seven-eighths of fulllength. The tendency is for the threequarter both in fabric and fur. HANDKERCHIEFS. With the prevailing mode of femininity, handkerchiefs have become more than ever an important accessory. Large chiffon handkerchiefs matching the frock or one of its accessories are one of fashion’s foremost style notes. These handkerchiefs differ from the lace-trimmed squares for evening wear and also from the chiffon squares with gay borders in block designs intended to; accompany sports costumes. The only trimming they display is the owner’s name hand-painted in one corner. Their effectiveness lies in their colours. For daytime costumes the all-white linen handkerchief, with or without | an initial, is always in good taste. Some ! of the new handkerchiefs which are ! less tailored have net inserts or borders instead of the lace trimming of last season.
