LATE SOCIAL NEWS.

THE ADDINGTON TROTS. The second day of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s summer meeting was held at Addington to-day. The weather, which yesterday ended in the typical New Year's downpour, had regained its summer brightness, and a big crowd attended the meeting. As is usual at this season, there was a large number of visitors from other parts of New Zealand, as well as many Christchurch people. The fine weather resulted in a pretty display of summer frocks and hats, which, with their varied colours and styles, added greatly to the picturesqueness of the scene. WEDDINGAITKEN—RUTLEDGE. Masses of blue and pink flowers decorated St Paul's Church, Cashel Street, this afternoon, when the marriage was celebrated of Mabel, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Rutledge, Bligh’s Road, Papanui, to Frederick Richard George, second son of Mr and Mrs A. J. Aitken, Lyndhurst. The Rev Fiest was the officiating clergyman. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a most attractive gown of ivory satin cut on simple lines, with a cross-over bodice, and the long sleeves forming a point over the hand. The skirt cut slightly circular, falling long at one side, gave an uneven hemline effect. Her beautiful embroidered veil of tulle fell from a quaintly arranged cap, and formed the train. She carried a bouquet of white flowers. The two maids in attendance —Miss Muriel Rutledge and Miss Margaret Henderson—were dressed alike in effective frocks of delphinium blue crepe de chine, with long fitting sleeves, and circular tiered frills forming the skirt front panel, the only trimming being narrow ribbon velvet bands in the same tone. Their hats of blue straw had wide drooping brims, and they carried bouquets of pink sweet peas. Little Mildred Aitken made a charming flower-girl in her frock of blue crepe de chine, with a ribbon band round her hair, and carried a posy of vari-coloured flowers. Mr Arthur Aitken attended the bridegroom as best man, and Mr H. Hammond was the groomsman. When the bride was leaving the church, she was presented with a lucky horse-shoe by Miss Helen Watson. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Winter Garden, where the guests were received by the bride’s mother, who was wearing a handsome gown of black silk chenille, with a vest and jabot of beige georgette edged with lace, and a flower-mounted black crinoline straw hat. Her bouquet was of deep cream roses. Mrs Aitken, the bridegroom’s mother, wore a handsome gown of black lace over crepe de chine, and a becoming black hat. She carried a bouquet of red roses. When the bride left for her wedding tour, she was wearing a smart frock of brown crepe de chine with beige trimmings. felt hat to match, and a smartly tailored cloth coat.
