INCREASED DEMAND FOR BOY LABOUR.
IMPROVEMENT NOTED By A HEADMASTER. (Special to the “Star.**! AUCKLAND, December 18. An increased demand for boy labour was noted by the headmaster of the Mount Albert Grammar School, Mr F. W. Gamble, in his annual report, presented at the prize-giving ceremony last evening. Mr Gamble said a considerable exodus of boys occurred before the completion of the year. A total of 56 had been definitely placed from the school, and other secondary schools, he believed, had the same experience. While the lower birth rate during the war period might actually be responsible for the present better adjust, ment of the supply to the demand, there was a good foundation for the belief that, in future, little difficulty would be found in placing all the available boys. When a balance between the positions and the boys available had been permanently established, however, there would still be the task of educating employers and parents as to the undesirability of terminating a boy’s course before the end of the year.
