WEDDING.

SHAND—MACKAY. The first wedding ceremony to be performed in the Nurses* Chapel at the Christchurch Hospital took place last evening, when Rachael, third daughter of Mr J. Mackay, of Takamatua, was married to Dr Eric Shand, youngest son of Mrs J. Shand, “Broadacres," Wylie’s Crossing, Taieri. The Rev H. W. Smith, the Hospital Chaplain, officiated, and Dr T. L. Crooke was organist. The chapel was decorated with large bowls of roses and a wedding bf ll was suspended over the bridal party. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown of ivory satin, with tightly-fitting bodice, shaped with a deep point at the centre, front and back of the waist line, and long, tight sleeves. The full-flared skirt fell long at the back 'and had a pearl ornament on the right hip. There was a row ‘of pearls up the centre back of the bodice. Her lace and net veil was worn well back on the head and was caught with a spray of orange blossom at the back. She carried a sheaf of| scarlet roses. Miss Marie Jamieson (Ashburton) and Miss Myra Birch (Palmerston North), the attendant bridesmaids, wore similar frocks of lime-green floral corded taffeta, made in early Victorian style with large bows on the right hip. Their hats were of lime-green felt and they carried orange and blue posies. The bridegroom was attended by J~'r Palmer as best man and by Dr L. M’Queen as groomsman. A reception was held afterwards at the Winter Garden. Mrs Donovan (French Farm), sister of the bride, and Mrs Shand, received the guests. Mrs Donovan wore a frock of navy blue crepe de chine, trimmed with scarlet, and a staw hat to tone. Her bouquet was of scarlet roses. Mrs Shand’s gown was of vieux rose marocain. She wore a black corded silk coat and a hat to tone with her frock. She carried a bouquet of rose pink flowers When Dr and Mrs Shand left for their wedding tour, the bride wore a smartly tailored suit of dark tan with a rose beige crepe-de-chine jumper, and a hat to tone.
