YOUTH FACES EIGHT CHARGES.
REMAND GRANTED TO DECEMBER 19. Seven charges of theft and one of conversion of a car were preferred against a young man, John Harold Halliday, aged 18, in the Magistrate’s Court this morning, before Messrs C. H. Gilley and D. Jackson, Justices of the Peace. On the application of Chief-Detective Carroll accused was remanded to appear on December 19. The charges were:— (1) That on December 7 he broke and entered the dwelling of N. P. Ball and stole 10s in money and one camera, valued at 30s. (2) That on December 10 he broke and entered the dwelling of N. P. Ball and stole goods to the value of £22 9s. (3) That on November 29, at Culverden, he converted to his own use a car valued at £9O, the property of Sydney Lawrence Pester. (4) That on September 6, at Greendale, he stole £2 9s 6d, the property of N. Swann. (5) That on December 3, at Christchurch, he stole a motor-car clock, valued at £3, the property of S. L. Pester. (6) That on September 6, at Greendale, he stole one overcoat valued at 30s, the property of Henry Kay. (7) That on December 1, at Greendale, he stole goods to the value of £2 2s, the property of H. B. Shipley. (8) That on “September 8, at Greendale, he stole goods to the value of £2, the property of N. Swann.
