WAKING UP.

To the Editor. Dear Sir,—l am glad that New Zealand is beginning to realise that we have a full right to expect to attract visitors from other countries, because in the words of Mr de la Perrelle, “We have got the goods to offer.’’ Living as we do in the midst of all New Zealand beauty, it is not till we go away and pay enormous sums to see sights not half so grand as those that are at our own door, that we see how great their attraction must be to strangers in search of natural beauty. But as one who has experienced the comforts of travel abroad, I am very glad that we are at last waking up to the need of improved facilities for the traveller. I notice that the railway trains now carry attendants, whose civility and assistance add considerably to the feeling of well-being on the journey. The English and American traveller appreciates good service. And while I am on the subject of attracting tourists, I would like to write a word of appreciation for the splendid work the New Zealand House in London is doing in advertising New Zealand. Their window displays of New Zealand products are very well done, and I have often seen large crowds in front of the windows when they have had a scenic display.—l am, etc., NEW ZEALANDER.
