EAST CHRISTCHURCH SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
At the last meeting of the East Christchurch School Committee for the year there were present Messrs Rosindale (chairman), Maddren, Atkinson, Stokes, Dann and Mrs M’Farlane. A letter was received from the Education Board recommending Miss M. H. Watson for the position of senior assistant mistress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Miss Sorenson. The board advised that the Education Department had sanctioned the building of two open air class rooms for the special class. (This building is now under construction.) It was agreed that some memento be granted to Doris May, one of the Standard 6 pupils, who was successful in winning the Self Help Co. Ltd. writing prize. A picnic at Wailcuku Beach, in honour of the occasion was held by the boys and girls of Standard 6. The head master reported that two boys and seven girls had been admitted, while eight boys and six girls had left during November month, leaving a roll numbei* of 369 boys and 359 girls, a total of 728, with an average attendance of 677 or about 92 per cent. The dental nurse reported that 337 pupils from the main schools had received attention while 36 were sent in from Richmond School. Authority was given for the purchase of school prizes, and a Christmas tree for the infant school. The visiting committee reported that the schools were In very good order. Some minor repairs were necessary which wou3d have promt attention. Messrs Stokes and Baird were appointed to the visiting committee and to report on February 3 next. The jumble sale, with the combined efforts of the teachers and committee, resulted in about £4O net being received.
