FRENCH TRAIN DERAILED AT 60 MILES AN HOUR.
SCENES OF HORROR WITNESSED; LARGE NUMBER OF CASUALTIES. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received December 11, 10.30 a.m.) PARIS, December 10. A Namur message states that failure of the brakes when descending a steep bank near the station, derailed a passenger train and four carriages telescoped. There were scenes of horror and rescue work was very difficult. It is believed that a dozen were killed and seventy-five injured. The carriages were cro-wded and many w r ere standing. The train was speeding at sixty miles an hour when the derailment occurred. It turned the engine completely round, crumpling three carriages, the others remaining vertical. Rescuers, aided by the fire brigade and special cranes from Brussels, wrestled for three hours cutting through the metal plates. The dead were terribly mutilated.
