RICHMOND BURGESSES ASSOCIATION MEETS.

The Richmond Burgesses' Association met last night. Mr J. Doogan presided over an attendance of nearly twenty members. A deputation from the United Burgesses’ Association, consisting of Messrs J. Stewart, R. J. Ecroyd'and F. J. Pronting, pointed out benefits to be derived from the Richmond Association affiliating with the central body. It was stated that there were in Christchurch about twenty burgesses’ associations, some twelve of which were affiliated. A central organisation was necessary to push forward matters or general Interest. The United Burgesses’ Association had done much to have the extra s clearance made on the New Brighton bridge, and amounts put on the City Council estimates for the widening of Stanmore Road. The organising secretary of the Port and City League (Mr H. M. Chrystall) wrote stating that he would be pleased to address the meeting which the association intended to arranged early in the new year, to place before the residents full details of the tunnel road scheme. The Drainage Board advised that the matter of the rating of certain properties on the north side of North Avon Road had been referred to the board’s Finance Committee to investigate and The association’s delegates to the United Burgesses’ Association were instructed to support the movement for a by-law making it obligatory for residents to have number plates on gateposts. Messrs J. Stewart, L. Kirk, P. fiutst and A. Cornelius were appointed a committee to canvass the district for subscriptions towards two cups for the district garden competition.
