That prizes for beautifying petrol bowsers, and for the best garden at a Canterbury railway station, would probably be offered in connection with the Canterbury Horticultural Society’s garden competition, was a statement made by Mr J. Humffl at last night’s meeting of the Richmond Burgesses’ Association. Mr Ilumm said that in California competitions were held for the beautifying of bowsers, which were tastefully glassed. Some of the gardens attached to railway stations were a great credit to those concerned. The proposed use of trolley buses in place of the trams on the North Beach line was mentioned at the meeting of the Richmond Burgesses’ Association last night. A member asked what was the opinion of the United Burgesses’ Association on the matter, as the road "as the main outlet to the sea for district motorists and others. Mr R. Jlicroyd, a member of the United Burgesses’ Association, said that the opinion of the Waimairi County Counci was that the buses would be rated cry heavily to pay for the extra cost road maintenance.
