Details of the Canterbury Horticultural Society’s garden competition this
summer were explained by Mr J. Humm to the Richmond Burgesses' Association last night. Mr Humm said the organisation of the competition would be under the control of the various burgesses’ associations, which would accept free entries. The judging would be done about February 1, 1930. There would be two competitions, one for amateurs having not more than a quarter of an acre of land and the other for part professionals having more than that area.. Winners of last year’s competition would be eligible only for the second competition of this year. Points and separate prizes would be given for taste and design, general lay-out, cultivation, and vegetables and fruit. “We are trying to encourage amateur gardening, and to get the twß best gardens in Christchurch." declared Mr Humm, who was thanked for his address.
