NORTH CANTERBURY EXECUTIVE.
At a meeting of the North Canterbury District Executive of the W.C.T.U. Mrs Richards presided over representatives from fourteen adult and three “Y” branches.
A number of departments of work were discussed, and the following superintendents were appointed:— Miss M. B. Lovell-Smith, scientific temperance lecturer; Miss Blackwell, superintendent of outlying districts; Mrs W. J. Williams, devotional exercises superintendent. The School of Methods Department was discussed and the appointment of a superintendent was deferred until the next meeting of the executive..
The question of Sunday excursion trains was raised, and the following resolution was passed:—“The North Canterbury District Executive of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union desires to enter a strong protest against the running of Sunday excursion trains in the Dominion.”
The secretary was instructed to forward a copy of the resolution to the Minister of Railways. Encouraging reports were received irom the unions regarding the garden held at the residence of Mrs T. E. Taylor on Saturday.
