Whooping cough, one of the most tiresome and long-drawn-out of childish illnesses, is prevalent in Christchurch at present. One private kindergarten school has its numbers reduced from 40 to 17 because of it, and several of the large public schools have depleted infant rooms. Very little can be done to prevent a child developing it, but parents can, when their children show any sign of a cough, be thoughtful for others ,by keeping the little folk away from those who may as yet be free from infection.
