PENNY ADDED TO PRICE OF SECOND GRADE PETROL.

NOW BEING SOLD AT 1/9 A GALLON

Motorists who use second grade petrol found this morning that the price had been raised at the service stations to Is 9d a gallon, an increase of a penny a gallon. The price of first grade petrol has not been changed, and most service stations will continue to charge Is lOd a gallon. The proprietor of a service station stated to-day that the wholesale cost of second grade petrol was Is 7d a gallon, and first grade Is Bd. After 800 gallons had been sold from a pump a discount of one halfpenny a gallon was allowed on the balance in excess of SOO gallons sold during that month. An impression had got abroad that there was a profit of 2id a gallon, but that was not the case, the extra halfpenny profit only applying to a comparatively small quantity. In the past most of the service stations had been making only a penny a gallon profit on second grade petrol.
