NEWSPAPER OPINIONS VARY ABOUT GONG INCIDENT IN FIGHT.
(Received December 9, 12.30 p.m.) PARIS, December 8. The newspapers express varied opinions concerning the gong incident in the Carnera-Stribling fight. Some think Camera was not guilty, but others consider that the gong could plainly be heard. The “Sunday Times’’ states:—“His seconds held the “Man-of-the-Moun-tains ” wrists. For a moment it appea r ed that he desired to attack the referee, Leon See. He also seemed anxious to climb the ropes and engage in a free fight with the crowd. His performance definitely places him beyond the championship class. His violent temper must be curbed, otherwise we must shelve him from boxing.”
