C. Orchard, of Linwood, hit up a very snappy 65 against East Christchurch on Saturday. He started off the season miserably with single figure scores and “ blobs,” but during the last two Saturdays he has returned to form. The Auckland Boxing Association has arranged a match between Grime and Pete Sarron, the American featherweight, for December 27. Arron and Leckie met on two occasions in Australia, each winning a match. The Pitt family has had representatives in the Green’s cricket teams for some years past. On Saturday last three of the brothers who still play for the club (at one time there were six) passed the half-century mark For the senior team, Frank Pitt made 63 against St Albans, and for the junior B team G. Pitt made 55 and F. Pitt made 52 not out, a good record for one afternoon’s play. Till December 21, Geoff Ollivier has not got a half an hour free between the hours of 9.30 a.m. and 8 pm. His 250 pupils are claiming all his attention, and keeping him working overtime. He wili have a few days off at Christmas, and later will go to referee the West Coast championships. The hardest work, he says, is with pupils who have had only one previous lesson, the others being comparatively easy to teach. The suggestion that the jubilee of the matches between Canterbury and Wellington should be celebrated by a match between veterans of at least twenty-five years’ standing on the day before the Plunket Shield match is a happy one, and the game, if it comes off, should not only provide a great deal of pleasure for the old hands themselves, but also prove interesting to the younger generation, who owe so much to those who have flung the torch to them (comments the “ Post ”).
