MOTOR-CAR STOPPED ON CROSSING, AND THE TRAIN PULLED UP.
(Special to the “ Star.”) r WELLINGTON, December 9. When the Petone crossing warning bells and the whistle of the engine itself announced the near approach of a train late on Saturday afternoon a motor-car driven by a young lady came to rest with its rear wheels right across the tracks. There was time to have reversed it, so it is said, but this was not done. A man in the back seat jumped out ar.d ran towards the approaching train trying to warn it. The driver of the car got out, but another young lady, who was with her, remained seated. train was slowing down, and, as luck would have it, pushed the car aside and stopped a few yards further on The occupant was not injured, but t»-e car, a brand new one, suffered damage i to the running board and wings.
