PROPOSED PARK FOR FENDALTON.

PETITION CIRCULATED ASKING FOR POLL.

A petition asking the Waimairi County Council to take a poll on the proposal to raise a loan for the purpose of acquiring Mrs R. O. Duncan’s property, “Coldstream Lodge,” comprising about twenty acres, as a park for the Fendalton district, has been put into circulation by the Fendalton Burgesses’ Association. This action has been taken at the request of the County Council, which declined to take a poll unless it received an assurance that the proposal had the support of a large body of the residents in the proposed special rating area. The price at which the property has been offered is about £B6OO, or approximately £4OO an acre, and an option has been secured until March 31, next. At present there is no park in the Fendalton district, and it is considered by the Burgesses’ Association that the property under offer is ideal for the purpose. It is about a half a mile from the tram terminus and includes a large house, -whicji, however, is very old. A member of the Burgesses’ Association stated this morning that it was hoped to obtain authority to dispose of all the five per cent subdivision reserves in the proposed special rating area, and devote the proceeds towards the purchase of the park. Application had been made to the Minister of Lands for this authority, and if it was obtained it was expected that the amount of the loan required would be reduced by from £2OOO to £3OOO.
