KNOCKED MAN DOWN: THEN FORGED LETTER.

(Special to the "Star.”) AUCKLAND, December 9. A motor accident in which he knocked down and seriously injured a man and the forgery of a letter in which he attempted to settle the matter—these facts led to the appearance in the Supreme Court this morning of Leonard James Monk. “ This man was driving a motor-car and knocked down a man named John Salle at Ruakaka,” said counsel. “ Then the foolish man wrote a letter offering to settle the matter for £IOO, and he signed the name of J. F. Salle, posting the letter to Salle’s solicitors. The letter stated that Monk had already been fined £SO in connection with the acci dent, and authorised the solicitors to accept £IOO from Monk in full settlement.
