By-Election Fixed for December 18 Causes Considerable Stir. (Special to the “ Star.”) WELLINGTON, December 9. The Hutt by-election, fixed for December 18, is attracting the active intervention of a large number of politicians. Mr Coates, Leader of the Opposition, and Mr Downie Stewart, former Minister of Finance, are speaking this week. Mr Holland, Leader of the Labour Party, arrives to-morrow for work in the constituency and his party has already been well represented. Labour members who have spoken being Messrs Sullivan, Jordan, Semple, M’Keen, and Fraser. Messrs Savage and M’Combs are expected this week. The Government candidate has had platform aid from two Ministers, and Mr Atmore intends to address a Lower Hutt meeting this week. The Labour Party’s appeal for campaign funds has already produced over £3OO from various parts of New "Zealand.
