A highwayman in the heart of London, amid the rush and roar of Piccadilly, would be a strange sight toda}', but in the early eighteenth century, when Piccadilly was a quiet and badly-lit street, highwaymen were not unknown there. A highwayman who was once pursued along Piccadilly turned up Bolton Street and disappeared. Lansdowne passage had offered him a means of escape. His pursuers crowded after him, but were held up for a few moments in the narrow entrance to the passage, and the thief got away. To hinder the path of future highwaymen barriers were then placed at each end of Lansdowne passage. UNIQUE AND USEFUL GIFTS AT PRICES YOU WANT TO PAY.
