FARM FOR STUDENTS SHOULD BE CHARGE ON GOVERNMENT.
Several members of the Board of Governors of the Christchurch Technical College last evening took e:. _eption to a suggestion by the Hon IT. Atmore, Minister for Education, that part of the cost of a farm for agricultural training should be met by funds subscribed locally. They said that, if the farm were established, all the money should be provided by the Government, as education was a national problem, and that the duty of meeting the cost rested on the Government, not on individuals. It was wrong in principle to ask the public to meet any part of the cost. At the same time, they felt that the position was forced upon them, and that, if necessary, the board should make a public appeal. The board referred the question tp its Agricultural Committee and Finance Committee for a report.
