A CHRISTMAS APPEAL.
To the Editor. Dear Sir, —A generous response is being made to Adjutant Coombs’s appeal for toys and sweets for the children Santa Claus may not visit this Christmas. About 230 of the desired 500 toys have already arrived at the “Toy Home,” 19, Victoria Street. Children seem delighted to bring their gifts. One wee chap brought in 6d given him to spend, but he wanted a poorer boy to get it, so he proudly entered his name in the donors’ book and went oft* as happy as though he had received a motor-car. The school girls are making scrap books. The girls and women at the Papanui Rescue Home are busy and happy making 500 dainty bags to hold sweets, etc., all intent on broadcasting joy and happiness this Christmas. Gifts of toys, sweets or cash addressed to Adjutant Coombs for the kiddies’ Christmas cheer may be left at the People’s Palace, Manchester Street; the Women’s Home, 175, Papanui Road; the Toy Depot, 19, Victoria Street; the Samaritan Office, 136, Armagh Street; and all with names and addresses attached will be acknowledged. May God bless any donor. —I am, etc., HANNAH L. COOMBS, Samaritan Officer.
