BOWLING. Fair progress has been made in the championship events at the Papanui Bowling Club. In the singles: J. Kettle has beaten Banks and Orbell, and Anderson has been beaten by Chester, Banks and Orbell. These are all the games that have been played in the A section. In the B section: Shaw beat Morrison; and Hadley jun. beat H. Kettle, Eagleton, Shaw, Morrison and Broughton. Morrison has beaten H. Kettle and Eagleton; Broughton has beaten Morrison and Nun week; Nunweek beat Chester; Church beat Chester; Church beat Nunweek. In the A grade pairs Morrison and Hadley, sen., beat H. Kettle and Smith; Chester and Freeman beat Anderson and Broughton; Morrison and Hadley sen. beat Butt and Quigley. In the B section Hadley jun. and Banks beat Nunweek and Gates and Childs and J. Kettle beat Nunweek and Gates. In the rinks three teams are level with two wins apiece. They are: Pilkington, Keetley, Freeman and Morrison (s); Wilson. Orbell, Gates, and J. Kettle (s).; Hadley, jun., Moran, Hadley, sen., Banks (s.) The Matson Badges are in the possession of Keetley and Hadley sen., and the Orbell Buttons are held by Nunweek and Hadley sen. BAND BAZAAR. The la-wns of Mrs H. R. Smith’s residence, St John Street, were gay with stalls on Saturday when the Papanui Band's bazaar was held. Mrs Smith is entitled to great credit for her organising which resulted in the instrument funds being augmented by a goodly sum. The Papanui Band played several selections during the afternoon. The stall-holders were: Mesdames H R. Smith, C. Smith, Reynolds Bell, C.

R. Dsfilow, sen., C. R. Dallow, jun., T. Wood, E. Hayman, Miss E. Christensen and Mr G. A. C. Tapper. On the Wednesday following the helpers were entertained at a social in the Papanui Buildings. Games and dancing interspersed with musical items made the evening pass brightly. Mrs Reg. Dallow won the competition. BREAK-UP CONCERT. Next Monday night at the Memorial Hall the break-up concert of St Joseph’s School will be held. The children’s items will be, as usual, the popular item of this concert. ST GILES CHURCH. The annual meeting of St Giles Presbyterian Church took place on Tuesday. The following officers were elected:—Minister: Rev John Miller, F.R.G.S.; session clerk: Mr R. D. Rule; elders: Messrs Baxter, Dailey, Sneddon, Davidson, Rule, Graham, Cook, August, Anderson, Dodds, Read, Quartermain, Wallace, J. R. Walter; Management Committee: Kirk Session (ex officio) Mesdames Kruse and Hawker, Miss M’Laughlan, Messrs Barnard, E. Borgfeldt, Jenkins, Hall, Ilegan, Shirlaw, Ritchie, M’Donald. Oalder and Gardiner; secretary: Mr T. Graham; treasurer: Mr J. Cook; envelope officers: Messrs J. Cook and E. Borgfeldt: Sunday School superintendent: Mr A. G. Davidson; church officer: Mrs Barnard. At the conclusion of the business a social was held. Mrs Ritchie gave a vocal solo and a short address was given by Mr Griffiths, Home Missioner at Belfast. NOTES. It is probable that the Papanui Boy Scouts will go into camp at Christmas at the Ashiey. The city gets a poor advertisement

from the state of Papanui and Bligh’s Roads. Waimairi Tennis Club followed up its win against Little River by beating Templeton on Saturday. A committee has been set up to hold a dance on New Year’s Eve. THE SCOUT DANCE. The dance organised by Mr W. Mof.fatt, for the Papanui Boy Scout’s was a great success. The floor of St Paul’s Schoolroom was all too small for the large number of dancers. Coloured shades and streamers decorated the hall. The music was supplied by Bryson’s Band. Mesdames T, C. W.
