WOOLSTON NOTES.

SURPRISE PARTY. Recently a party of twenty-eight young people paid a surprise visit to the residence of Mrs T. Fordham, Charlesworth Street, in honour of the birthday of Miss F. Fordham. A very enjoyable time was spent in games, competitions etc. Mr Roll Fordham proposed the toast of Miss Fordham, who suitably replied. Mr G. Beaumont won the thread the needle competition, and Miss G. Fordham the rolling the cigarette competition. GARDEN PARTY. On Thursday afternoon Mrs F. Tooley entertained the members of the Mothers’ Union and their friends at a garden party in the vicarage grounds. Competitions were won by Mrs Kirk, Mrs Fletcher and Mrs Jenkinson. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs Tooley. SCOUTS FLAGS. On Sunday morning at St John’s service was conducted by the Rev F. Tooley. Two new flags for the scout troup were dedicated by the vicar, two patrol leaders, D. Christian and R. Cooper being the bearers of the flags. R. Beaumont, S. Barker and Mr Stewart were also in attendance. ST JOHN’S SCOUTS. The annual meeting of the parents Of the boys of the St John’s Scouts, which was to have been held on Monday evening, has been postponed until December 9. PERSONAL. Mr L. Saunders, organist at St John’s, who has been away for a holiday after his recent illness, has returned to his duties. BENEFICIAL RAINS. The recent rains have made a vast difference in the appearance of the local gardens and lawns. The gardens at the Davis Gelatine Works are looking well now, and are well worth a visit of inspection
