RACES HELD AT NORTH BEACH.

CHRISTCHURCH MOTOR CLUB STAGES LONG DISTANCE EVENT.

The Christchurch Motor Club held its fifty-miles beach race to-day at North Beach. There was a'good crowd, although not so large as usual. The beach was in great order, but a head wind going up the beach was a nuisance, though not a handicap. The entry was very satisfactory, and included several novices. The course was two and a half miles long. The result was:— T. R. M’Cleary (3* h.p. Ariel), Bmin 30sec 1 R. W. Jenkins (3$ h.p. Norton) Smin 2 G. W. Hockley (7-9 h.p. D.D.), scr 3 Also competed—G. Upheld (21 h.p. D.0.T.) llmin 45?ec, V. C. Brown <2l h.p. Norton) lOmin 30sec, C. E. Blacklock (21 h.p. AJ.S.) lOmin 30sec, F. Darling (6 h.p. H.D.), lOmin 15sec, G. \I. Chambers (7-9 h.p. H.D.) 9min 45sec, S. L. Ogier (3i h.p. Ariel) 9min 30sec, R. Palmer (21 h.p. H.D., F ; Fuller (3* h.p. Norton)- 9min 15sec, F. Sharman (3$ h.p. Sunbeam) 9min, N. R. Gray (3i h.p. A.J.S.) 6min, A. Smith (7-9 h.p. Indian) scr, and G. Hockley (7-9 h.p. H. scr. A. Smith made the fastest lap, his time being 3min # 43sec for the five miles. M’Cleary steadily made up his handicap and was leading at half-way. N. Gray, A. Smith and R. Palmer pulled out in the third la,p. M’Cleary stayed in the lead and went on to win easily. Fourteen started and only the placed men finished. Times-r-43min 55sec, 46 min 30sec, 40min 5 sec.
