Mr and Mrs J. W. Trolove (Marlborough) are guests at Warner’s Hotel. Miss S. P. Warburton, of Bradford, Yorkshire, is a guest at Warner’s Hotel. Mrs Sholto Douglas (Ethelton) and Mrs C. Short (Wellington) are staj'ing at the United Service Hotel. Miss Patricia Lithgow has returned to Christchurch after spending a short holiday at Timaru. Mrs R. D. Crosby, of Castle Moat House, Lincoln, England, is staying with her sister, Mrs 11. Wales, Cashmere Hills. Miss Murray, Matron of the Presbyterian Girls’ Home, is expected back this week after spending an extended holiday at Russell, Whangarei and Mount Albert, Auckland, with her sister, Mrs D. D. Rodger. The latest arrivals at the Hotel Federal include:—Messrs L. and A. Milliken (Springfield), Mrs I. Clulow (Auckland), Mr and Mrs C. Hurst (Timaru), Mr R. Rose (Invercargill), Mr and Mrs A. Nairn (Auckland), Mr and Mrs Whittaker (Kuaha), Mr Archibald (Wellington), Mr J. H. Newson (Wellington), Mr R. Williams (Oamaru). Miss Kathleen Hannan, who is shortly to be married, was the guest of honour at a gift afternoon, given by her sister, Mrs Malcolm M'Duff on Saturday afternoon. Those present included: Mesdames Malcolm M’Duff, Campbell, Macintosh, Geary and Hannan, Misses Hannan, Sha\*e, Low, Fitzway, B. M’Duff, E. M’Duff, Edmonds, D. M’Duff and Burrell. The annual meeting of the Belfast Branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society was held on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs King presided. Mrs W. T. Rogers read a paper on missionary work. The collectors, Mesdames Farquhar, Chaplin, Rogers and Misses Isobel Reese and Joan Wilson (secretary of the branch), collected £8 2s 3d in and around Belfast toward the funds of the society. Miss M. Forsyth, youngest daughter of Mr T. Forsyth, chairman of the Wellington Education Board, has been awarded the Sarah Ann Rhodes Travelling Scholarship by the Victoria College University. Miss Forsyth will leave for the United States next year to take an advanced course in domestic science and research at the Columbia University, New York. The scholarship term extends over two years.

The monthly meeting of the North Linwood Free Kindergarten was held in the school hall on Tuesday. Those present were: Mesdames Jarden (in the chair), Retallick, Stewart, Taylor, Calder arid Powell. Apologies were received from Mrs Baker and Mrs Mardon. Arrangements were completed for the children’s Christmas tree and party to be held in the schoolroom on December 16. A cheque was received from the association to provide Christmas cheer for the children. A fancy dress party will also be held in the North Linwood School on December 14. Miss Martin’s report showed the roll number to be fifty-two, with a return of old pupils each week who have been absent through sickness. The highest attendance was forty, and the lowest twenty-three. The subscriptions for the month were £2 4s 6d. The parents’ committee held a “ bring and buy" evening at the home of Mrs Hills. Tancred Street, during the month. The next meeting will not be till February.
