DRILL DISPLAY.

The value of physical drill in schools is recognised more each year, and it is gradually gaining a more important place in the syllabus.. A proof of this was given yesterday .afternoon, when, for the first time, a display of physical exercises and organised games was given by the pupils of the Christchurch Girls’ High School in the Y.AI.C.A. gymnasium. In spite of the sudden thun-der-Storm, there > was ■ a good attendance of parents and onlookers, who were thoroughly interested in the display. If the plan of giving the parents an opportunity of seeing the work of the girls in this direction is continued each year, the display should rapidly grow in popularity. The programme, which was arranged and organised by Aliss Forsyth, the drill mistress, was as followsij—Form 111., Swedish drill, step-marching and Swedish clap dancing; games, leaping the Brook (first year girls). Skinning the Snake (second year girls), Zig-Zag. Relay (third year girls), Overhead Passing (fourth year girls); Form IV., Swedish drill and step marching; net ball games: Forms V. and Vl.,' Swedish drill and step marching; figure marching.
