MAYOR INSPECTS SEA CADET CORPS PARADE.
Although it has only been in existence for a month, the Sea Cadet Corps, which is comprised of boys from the various Christchurch schools, is proving a very efficient body. The corps has been formed by Colonel V. S. Smyth, and at the present time its strength is sixty-five. The boys receive naval training and parade weekly in the grounds of the Normal District School. At the. parade in Cranmer Square last evening the boys were inspected by the Mayor (the Rev J. K. Archer), who congratulated them on their efficiency. In a short address to the boys the Mayor said that he was glad to notice that there was one thing that thev had learned to do, and that was to stand still. He expressed the hope that, they would all take up swimming, for it was not only a fine thing for physical culture, but also placed the boys in the position of being able to save lives. In reading the annual report of the Boy Scouts’ activities, there were two of their objects that had impressed him. The first was the seeking after efficiency, which was a great thing in after life, and the second was that each boy scout undertook to do a good turn every day. If thev did not have that rule it was a good one to adopt.
