MINISTERIAL. The Hon G. W. Forbes, Minister of Lands and Agriculture, who arrived in Christchurch on Friday, evening, will leave for Wellington this evening. Mr Justice Adams returned to Christchurch yesterday from a sitting of the Appeal Court at Wellington. Mr H. Holland, M.P., was a passenger from the north by yesterday morning’s ferry ste&mef. Mr F. Howard, the officer in charge of the Government Tourist Office at Greymouth, has received notice, of his transfer to the Wellington office. Mr W. S. Pratt, of Christchurch, has received advice from the Nelson Education Board confirming his appointment to the position of head master of the Reefton District High School. He leaves to take up his new position on October 30. Brigadier M. M. Gard’ner, D. 5.0., Officer Commanding the Southern Command, left for Waimate on Saturday. He was to unveil a war memorial window at the Waimate Methodist Church yesterday, and will return to Christchurch tomorrow. The Christchurch and New Zealand swimmer, Mr L. J. Moorhouse, has received the news that he has been made an overseas member of the _ Penguin Swimming Club, London. This club is one of the finest water polo clubs in England. Messrs J. W. Graham, president of the Canterbury Employers’ Association, A. M. Burns, L. G. K. Stevens, V. E. Hamilton and the secretary (Mr W. Cecil Prime) will represent the association at the annual conference of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation in Wellington on October 23.

Mr E. C. Vaughan, the representative of the New Zealand Refrigerating Compand, Ltd., at Leeston, has returned from a visit to Australia. Mr F. Pawson, business agent of the Railways Department, has gone south to meet the party of Tasmanian farmers who are at present visiting New Zealand. Mr D. W. M. Webster has been appointed clerk of the Magistrate’s Court at Waimate, clerk of the Waimate Licensing Committee, and registrar of electors for Waitaki. Mr G. S. Ellis, who has been appointed chief draughtsman at the Christchurch office of the Lands and Survey Department, in succession to Mr A. J. Wicks, arrived from New Plymouth on Saturday. Mr Wicks has been transferred to the head office in Wellington. The death has occurred of his Honor Mr Justice R. M. Sly, who was for many years a Judge of the New South Wales Supreme Court, says a Sydney cable. His age was eighty years. He retired from the Bench in 1920, and leaves a widow and four daughters. The Official Assignee at Christchurch (Mr A. W. Watters) has received notice of his transfer to Auckland on promotion. Mr Watters came to Christchurch eight years ago from W ellington, where he was employed on the staff of the Public Trustee. His place at Christchurch will be taken by Mr J. Mr A. W. Watters. H. Robertson, who is at present Public Trustee in Hamilton.
