RIDERS PEDAL FROM PALMERSTON NORTH TO WELLINGTON. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, October 13. The fourth annual Palmerston North to Wellington road race was decided on Saturday under fairly good conditions. The roads, with the exception of the stretch to Foxton. were in good order. There was an absence of wind until the competitors reached the top of Paekakariki Hill, where they ran into a growing southerly. W. Hussy, from Foxton, started off the iimit mark and from beginning to end led the field, unaccompanied after the first mile. Fromp-tly at one minute to 9 a.m. the competitors were despatched from the Square in Palmerston North. Hussy established an exceptionally fast journey to Foxton, passing this point over eighteen minutes ahead of his comarker. Passing through the Foxton township the scratch men had gained two minutes on the ten minute riders, and Lukov and Oane were doing most the work. Hussy reached Levin at 11.7 a.m. after covering the thirty-seven miles unaccompanied in good time. Blakeaway and W. Collins (Palmerston North), who were off the seventeen minute mark, rode steadily through Levin. Hussy reached Paraparaumu at 12.50. Between Levin and Otaki the scratch men caught up with the fifteen minute and ten minute pedallers. On the run to Paekakariki Hussy made good time and commenced the task of climbing the hill at a steady pa.ee. Riding, running,, and at times walking, the seventeen-year-old champion at length reached the top at 1 37 p.m. Tasker reached the top twenty minutes after Hussy. Lukey, Webber and Blakeaway commenced the climb in a determined fashion and performed the feat of reaching the top without leaving their saddles. Changes were taking place amongst the rear-marlcers. Tasker had tired after descending the big hill and was caught up with by the backmarkers, Lukey and Webber. Lukey had been doing most of the work in the back division and was tiring when he led Webber into the Basin Reserve to circle the track. A hundred yards from the line Webber put in his final effort and crossed two lengths ahead of Lukey.
