Carpenters were putting the finishing touches to the Discovery when Sir Douglas Mawson quietlj' boarded her, accompanied by seven scientists, completing her full complement of forty. Those approached showed themselves unwilling further to discuss Norwegian activities in the Antarctic beyond stating that, while they welcome scientific co-operation, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa were .primarily interested in the areas in which they are carrying out research.
