HARE WOOD CLUBS CHAMPIONSHIP WON BY R. G. THOMSON. R. G. Thomson defeated J. S. Wilson, S up and 6, in the final of the Harewood club’s championship during the week-end. In the morning, Thomson finished 5 up. Wilson’s long game was even better than Thomson’s, but he failed on the greens. Thomson’s putting was very accurate. At the first hole in the second round, Wilson won in three and had an ISin putt for a win at the second, but missed. This failure seemed to upset him for the rest of the game. He lost his second shot at the third hole, which Thomson won in 4. The fourth hole was halved in 3. Thomson won the fifth in 5 and the sixth, but lost the seventh when Wilson did a bogey 5 to Thomson’s 6. Thomson won the eighth and ninth, leaving him 7 up at the turn. The tenth was won by Thomson in 4, but Wilson won the eleventh in 3, leaving Thomson dormie 7. Thomson won the twelfth in 4, leaving him winner by S up and 6. Wilson’s failure was due to erratic putting. Playing against A. R. Blank the day before, his putting was excellent, and it was hard to believe that this was the same player* Godby Cup. In the final of the Godby Cup (junior championship), L. S. Ayers, who was 5 up on the morning round, defeated J. J. Fitzgerald. 6 up and 5 The winner kept a fine length, and drove and putted well. Blank Cup. In the fourth round, A. R- Blank has to meet R. G. Thomson. The winner of this match will play W. L. Lawry in the second semi-final, the winner to play H. H. P Ballantyne in the final. Ballantvne, in his semi-final match against G. W. Ward, ended all square, and on the replay won with a score ol 1 up. Closing Day. The club’s annual closing day will be held next Sunday, when the annual competition for the Harewood Closing Day Cup will take place. Last >ear eleven teams competed, the Christchurch club’s team winning. A bogey match will be played concurrently with the cup match in the morning. The afternoon fixtures include a nine-hole Canadian foursome and driving, approaching and putting competitions. The trophies won during the season will be presented at the end of play. Entries for the Closing Day Cup must be in the hands of the secretary, Mr R. de G. Robilliard, by 5 p.m. on Friday. Players not members of the Ilarewood club can enter only if members of teams in the cup match. AVONDALE CLUB. On Saturday the bogey handicap on the Avondale links was won by L. •). Killiek.
