"CARRY ON!”
BY SINBAD. Still does the super-tax on land Provoke a most indignant din; A lot of protests are at hand, While others still are streaming in. From Dannevirke to Dargaville, From Winton to Waipukurau, The squatters like the prospect ill, The land kings are annoyed—and how! Whenever Farmers’ L'nions meet They rave at Ward’s iniquity. While Tories in the House repeat These worried wails with party glee. In fact at present Gordon Coates, In reading protests is employed, And motions passed by hearty votes Of wool kings who are much annoyed. At propaganda so well planned, This writer can afford to smile; If he possessed large hoards of land, No doubt the super-tax would rile. Sir Joe has got them on the hop; That fact can be relied upon. But though the squatters bellow “ Stop! ” The people’s word is “ Carry on.”
