A horse and dray proceeding along the footpath in Cathedra! Square makes an incongruous spectacle which is being witnessed occasionally. Material for the reconstruction of the footpaths in the Cathedral grounds is being delivered by the contractor, and the footpath provides the best and most convenient means of entrance and exit for the vehicle. The Assessment Court, which is to hear objections to the recent city valuations, will commence its sittings in Christchurch on September 13. About 400 objectors are to be heard.
