HEAVY RAINFALL CAUSES FLOODING IN WELLINGTON SUBURB.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, August 22. The heavy southerly continued throughout last night with high winds and heavy rain. Two inches of rain fell in the 24 hours to 9 a.m. in Wellington city and about 3i inches in the Hutt district. The Hutt River is up, but districts usually badly affected by water are less seriously affected on the present occasion. There are numerous small slips about, but nothing serious so far has been reported. Owing to the inadequate storm water drain Miramar suburb is badly flooded and the tram service is suspended.
