OBITUARY.
JAMES INGRAM. One of the earliest residents of the Kaikoura district. Mr James Ingram passed away on Saturday at the resi dence of his daughter. Mrs J. Lyford Derb\ r Street St Albans He was in his ninetieth year. The late Mr Ingram was bom at Banff. Scotland, in 1839 He served for a time with the 78th Highlanders, and at the age of nineteen arrived in N*ew Zealand, where he entered the service of Messrs Henry and A. W. Ingles, with whom he remained for thirty-five years as manager of the Mount Fyffe and Puhi stations. He led the first survey narty to the summit of the Lookers-on Peak, the highest peak in the Kaikoura ranges, and he was one of the first to arrive on the Thames goldfields, though he remained there only a short time The late Mr Ingram married Miss Mee of Wellington, in 1870. His wife died at Kaikoura eleven years ago and his remains have been taken there for interment He is survived by a son and three daughters, Mr Tames Ingram Rai Valley, Marlborough, Mrs Tohn Lyford.
