INDEPENDENCE DAY DEATH ROLL SHOWS REDUCTION TO 159
400 INJURED IN U.S. IN AUTOMOBILE SMASHES (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received July 6, 11.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, July 5. A Chicago message states that the Independence Day celebrations on Thursday took toll of 159 lives, a decrease of forty-six from 1928. There was a reduction of deaths from drowning, and heat prostration. Death through automobile accidents totalled seventy, and it is estimated that at least 400 were injured.—Australian Press Association.
