NEW DAILY CARTOON FEATURE IN “STAR.”
The brilliant cartoonist Gluyas Williams will be a daily contributor to the “ Star ” from to-day onwards, with a humorous cartoon dealing with some subject of wide interest. WOMAN LEAVES CITY UNDER COURT ORDER. Josephine Henery, on a charge of being an idle and disorderly person, was convicted and discharged at the Magistrate’s Court this morning. Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M., was on the Bench. The woman appeared before the Court three days ago, when the case was adjourned to give her time to leave town. “What is the position now ? ” asked the Magistrate. “Has the accused left?” Chief-Detective Carroll: I think so, your Worship, but I’m not quite sure.’ I was informed that she was placed on a train for Ashburton by a man at 7.30 o’clock this morning. If she stays there it will be all right. Mr Levvey: Very well, I shall enter a conviction against her, and she will be discharged.
