HUGE MERGER OF DAIRY INTERESTS IS CONCLUDED.
WILL COMBAT WORK OF MARGARINE UNION. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received July 5, 1 p.m.) MELBOURNE. July 5. A cablegram has been received here confirming the agreement which was concluded between Amalgamated Dairies, Ltd., New Zealand, and the Australian Co-operative Federation, Ltd., for the purpose of selling Australian and New Zealand butter and other produce from one floor by one controlling organisation in Great Britain. This is described as the largest merger of dairy interests to be attempted in the British Empire. Its object is to combat the attempt of the Margarine Union to oust butter from the markets of the world as a staple article of diet.—Australian Press Association.
