FLOODGATE FOR HORSESHOE LAKE IS DISCUSSED BY BURWOOD RESIDENTS.
At the monthly meeting of the Burwood Progressive Association, the following were present: Messrs W. R. Burnett (chairman), R. J. Ecroyd, J. Liggins, G. F. Robinson, J. Wetherall, J. Peters, 11. Paterson, G. Lewis, F. i Cusack, J. Menzies, F. Reaby and A. Rowland. Mr Liggins reported that residents in Bassett Street had been requested to clear the broom in front of their premises, and he stated that when the footpaths were clear, they would be put in proper condition. The question of constructing a flood gate at the outlet from Horse-shoe Lake was raised, and the secretary was requested to write to the member for the district with a view to having the matter expedited. The meeting was informed that it was the intention of the Reserves Committee of the City Council to clear the corner of Burwood Park near Kinloch Street, and to have it properly laid down this 'winter. The United Burgesses’ Association forwarded the following remits foi consideration: (1) That the Christchurch City Council be asked to frame a by-law prohibiting pedestrians from passing in front of a stationary tram car. (2) That the Christchurch Tramwav Board be asked to stop trams between intersections, instead of at street corners as at present. (?>) That local authorities be asked to have b}'-law 287 enforced, especially with reference to bicycles. Remits 1 and 2 were rejected, but remit 3 was accorded the support of members, who contended that the cycle traffic required regulating. A letter was received from Mr F. S. Palmer, Burwood, who urged that the question of maintenance of the roads under the proposed trolley bus system should be carefully considered by the ratepayers. Consideration of the matter was held over until the next meeting. in order that definite information might be obtained from the Waimairi County Council.
