SLOOPS LEAVE ON A CRUISE OF PACIFIC.
(Special to the “Star.”) AUCKLAND, June 17. The sloops Laburnum and Veronica are leaving to-day on a four months’ cruise in the Pacific. They are due to return to Auckland on October 19. The Laburnum will visit Fiji, the Gilbert and Ellice groups, in addition to numerous outlying islands, and Veronica will call at the Cook Islands, Samoa and Tahiti.
The Wakakura will proceed to Flauraki Gulf to-day towing a target, and the sloops will engage in gunnery practice before commencing their cruise.
