BOXING.
WELL-KNOWN AMATEURS TO CONTEST TOURNEY. Several well-known amateurs are included in the team of visiting boxers that will take part in the interprovincial boxing tournament, promoted by the Christchurch Sports Club, to bo held on June 24 at the Municipal Concert Hall. The local team is a very powerful selection, including Colin Gardiner (New Zealand light heavy-weight champion), Twist Jaggers (Canterbury welter champion). Steve M’Kane (holder of the Fairbairn Cup), and G. Wright, W. Carey. Nixon and T. Green, all of whom are expected to take part in the finals of the coming Canterbury amateur championships. Wellington is sending down a contingent of four boys, Tasker. Jackson. M'Gee and Joberg, all of whom won their bout 3 at the recent Wellington tournament, and subsequently won their events in a tournament promoted by the Marlborough Boxing Association. P. Hawse, of Westport, will be remembered by everyone who saw him fight here last year. He is one of the most promising of the younger amateurs, and should subsequently win Dominion honours. Webber, who will meet Steve M Kane, recently obtained the decision against Leckie in Dunedin, after one of the best amateur bouts staged by the southern club for some months. This is the first occasion that a representative team, cf amateur boxers has visited Christchurch for several years, and the tournament entries give every indication of providing some first - ■ lass boxing.
