ART GALLERY ON J. R. GODLEY PLOT
DR THACKER WANTS SQUARE CLEARED OF TRAMS AND SHELTERS.
The suggestion that the new art gallery should be placed in the centre of the Godley statue plot and that the memorial column fund should be spent on a memorial vestibule for the gallery has been made by Dr 11. T. J. Thacker, Deputy-Mayor. Dr Thacker, as a member of the City Council, will make every effort to have rails, trams and shelters removed from the Square. That would make the way clear for the art gallery in the middle of the reserve, with garden plots and seats around it.
