A Cambridge young man received the surprise of his life a night or t.wo ago when he' bad a most fortuate escape from being struck by a bullet and perhaps killed. The man and several others were having a smoke and chat in the smoking room of a local boarding house when there was a loud report and the pipe which one of the occupants of the room was smoking was blown to atoms. It appears that the young man had been out shooting previously and had left some pea-rifle cartridges in his pocket. One of the caftrilges had got among his tobacco, and when filling his pipe the cartridge, too. was rammed into the bowl. Fortunately the bullet went straight up and embedded itself in the ceiling of the room. Except for the shattered pipe no damage was done.
