WOOLSTON NOTES.

STAR OF WOOLSTON TENT, 1.0. R. The usual meeting of the tent was held on Monday evening, when Sister Pearson, C.R., presided. Two candidates were initiated into the Order, and sick pay was passed for payment. Correspondence was received from the Provincial Council with respect to the rules and conditions governing the “ Initiation Challenge Cup.” It was decided to enter for the competition. The D.R. and others reported on the recent visit of the tent to Richmond Brother Williams and several other superintendents reported on the recent meeting of the juveniles. Brother Bardsley was presented with the emblem by Brother Martin, D.C.R., the recipient thanking the tent for their kindness. Brother Martin, assisted by Brother Bayliss, installed the newly elected officers. WOOLSTON LIBRARY". The annual meeting of subscribers of the Woolston Library w’as held in the library on Tuesday evening, Mr D Lingard presiding. The secretary presented the annual report and balance-sheet, the latter showing the total Receipts as £176 6s 8d for the year. The following figures shoW how the library has progressed since it was taken over by the City Council and vested in a local committee:—Receipts: 1923-24, £104; 1924-25, £111; 1925-26, £105; 1926-27, £159; 1927-28. £146; 1928-29, £176. The report said:—“The steady progress cf the library no doubt is due to the large amount of building going on in the district. Also a great deal of credit is due to the librarian. Mr C. JVI. Lilburne, who is always keen to get hew members, and is always helpful and obliging with members when selecting books ” A vote of thanks was passed to the •butgoing committee. The new officers were then elected as follows:—Chairman, Mr W. Cooper; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. B. Richardson; committee, Messrs Lingard, Smythe, Wright, Marquet. E. Snelling, Graham, Cater, Mauger, Downie, H. Lilburne, C Lilburne, Johns, Stokes and Thorne. The new committee met at the conclusion of the annual meeting. The social committee was elected as follows:—Messrs W. Cooper (secretary and treasurer), Cater, Downie, Johns Wright, Marquet, E. Snelling. Mauger. H. Lilburne and C. Lilburne. It was decided to hold the annual hard-up so- j cial early in August and the children’s j fancy dress carnival towards the end I of September The secretary was i authorised to purchase £ls worth ot j books for June and July. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Anchor Lodge, U.A.0.D.. was held in the Druids’ Hall on Tuesday Arch Druid Brother J. Adams presided. D.P Brother W. Jones and P.D.P. Brother D. Smith, of Perseverance Lodge, paid a visit to the lodge. The sick visitors gave a favourable report on the sick members. Brother Champ reported on the card tournament, and Brother Pegg on the recent meeting of the Dispensary Board. One new member was initiated. Sick pay was passed for payment. The secretary submitted the half-yearly balance-sheet, which was adopted. The auditors congratulated the lodge on its sound financial post tion. The election of officers for the ensuing half-year resulted as follow’s: Arch Druid, Brother Hopping. ViceArch, Hill; secretary, Brother Jarvis; treasurer, Brother Wright; minute secretary, Brother Champ; Arch Bards.

Brothers Pease and Eastwick; inside guardian, Brother Eastwick; outside guardian, Brother Clarke; vice-arch bards, Brothers Kettle and Truscott: auditor, Brother Champ. The newly elected officers were then installed by District President Brother F. Smith, assisted by Past District President Brother D. Smith. A hearty vote of welcome was extended to the visiting brothers. Seven new candidates were proposed. An invitation was received and accepted to attend the Perseverance Lodge on Monday, June 17. GENERAL. The Woolston School Committee held their usual euchre evening in aid of the school funds on Saturday evening. About sixty persons were present. The usual weekly dance was held in the Druids’ Hall on Thursday evening. Bryson’s Band supplied the music, and Mr C. Snelling was M.C. On Monday last, the Woolston School basketball B team played Redcliffs School team at Woolston Park, the visitors winning by 14 points to nil.

At the last meeting of the Woolston Horticultural Society it was decided to hold the annual meeting on Tuesday June 25, in the Woolston Library.
