I The usual monthly meeting of tne Library Committee was held on Mon- j dav night. The vice-president, Mr L ‘ B. Freeman, presided over the follow f ing;—Mesdames Peers, Angas, Lock wood, D. From the district secretary notifying t that the. examination of N.G/s would i

take place on June 20, and enclosing proposed new rule substituted for previous one, for the special district con ference. A copy of the report on the proposed class for lodge auditors was also received from the D.S. At his stage the district officers, members oJ the district management committee and officers, sisters and brothers ot visiting lodges were admitted into the lodge room and received a very hearty welcome from the N.G. One candidate was initiated into the Order, P.G.' 4 - Brothers F. R. Longley and H Osborne acting as conductors. The N.G asked District Grand Master Brother T Meener to act as his “ right supporter.” and the Deputy Grand Master, Brother H. W. Gourlay, to act as his “ left sup porter.” Further correspondence from the D.S. was received, stating that the district management committee was presenting a jewel to be called t e to be prison ted to the member who introduces the largest number of benefit members into a lodge in this district between December, 1928, and November 30, 1929 A discussion took place with respect to opening a branch of the lodge in an other district, and it was eventually de cided to leave the matter in the hands of the lodge’s management committee to go into the matter and report to a special summoned meeting. P.G.’s Brothers W. B. Browne and W II Phil lips reported on the business transacted at the last meeting of the U.F.S. Dispensary. The report was received and delegates thanked. One candidate was proposed for membership. D.G.M. Brother T. Meener and the D.D.G.M. Brother responded to he third sentiment and representatives of the following lodges responded to the fourth sentiment:—Loyal Sister Pearce Lodge, Loyal Addington, Loyal City of Christchurch, Loyal Volunteer, Loyal Phillipstown, Loyal Kaiapoi, Loyal Papanui, Loyal Riccarton, Past Grands’ Lodge, Loyal City of Norwich (Lyttelton), and Loyal Hobart (Tasmania'. The lodge adjourned and the visitors were entertained. SOCIAL EVENING. The St Albans Burgesses' Association held its annual social evening in the Winton Street Hall on Tuesday night. The social took the form of

progressive euchre, dancing and items The president, Mr F. Prouting, extend ed a hearty welcome to those present on behalf of the executive. Mrs D. Sandman and Mr Weston won the first prizes for euchre, Mrs Gracie and Mr J. Erasmusson the travelling prizes and Mr and Mrs Finlay the Monte Carlo waltz. Miss M. Hardie won the box of chocolates. Items were given by Miss M. Hardie (songs), Master and Miss Gunther (concertina duets), Mas ter Ray Thomson (recitations). Mrs Jowett (songs), Mr L. Campbell (songs). The president thanked the performers for making the evening such a success. Mr E. Ewings acted as M.C., Messrs G. T. Grover and T Gagliardi were in charge of the progressive euchre, and Lethaby’s Orches tra supplied the music for the dancing BAND OF HOPE. There was a good attendance at the opening meeting of the Rugby Street Band of Hope The chair was occupied by the Rev L. B. Neale. A programme of vocal and instrumental items was contributed to by the Misses Kiddey, Wallace, Wanty, Bray Langley, Simpson, Hincksman. Green, and Brian, and Master B. Sim. Action songs and choruses were also rendered. Mr Neale, in the course of an address, pointed out the advantages of total abstinence. He announced that it was intended to form a juvenile choir, and that several ladies were willing to give free tuition to intending members. SOCIAL-. • A most successful reunion, under the auspices of the Rugby Street Christian Endeavour Society, was presided oved by the Rev L. B Neale. The occasion was in the nature of a birthday gathering, and the gifts presented amounted to £l4 18s, which will be devoted towards securing a sum of £IOO in aid of the Trust Fund of the church. A bright programme was carried out and a most enjoyable evening spent. HOPE OF ST ALBANS DRUIDS LODGE. The meeting of the Hope of St Albans Lodge, U.A.0.D., had a record attendance on Tuesday evening, A.D. Bro J. Nimmo presiding. A hearty welcome was accorded P.G. Bro F. George, Bros C. Barnes, Cooper, Dunford, Alaous and Cook, offioers of the No. 1 Chapter, and PA. Bro F. Cole, of the Pioneer Lodge. Correspondence was received from the No. 1 Chapter, inviting members who were entitled to their degrees to attend on Tuesday evening next. From the Board of Management, suggesting that certain steps be taken by Lodge trustees with respect to the investing of funds. The balance-sheet presented by the secretary showed the Lodge to have made iftjod progress during the half-year, all

the funds showing increases. The auditors, in their report, complimented the financial officers on the progress shown The delegates to the Dispensary Board meeting presented their report, and stated that a further levy would be necessary to meet the increased cost caused by the scarlet fever epidemic. The election of officers resulted as follows: J.P.A., Bro J. Nimmo; A.D., Bro Gascoyne; secretary, Bro M’Kenzie; treasurer, Bro Russell; VA., Bro Thompson; A.D.8., Bros Jennett and Chappie; VA.B., Bros Hewitt and Ward; 1.G., Bro J. Dix§y; O.G, Bro Freeman; minute secretary, Bro Jowsey. The installing ceremony w’as conducted by Bro C. 11. Marshall, assisted by P.D.P. Bro C. Barnes.
