PRIVATE VIEW.

A good number accepted Mr Janies Cook’s invitation to a private view of his oil paintings, water colours and pencil drawings in the Art Gallery yesterday afternoon. During the afternoon tea was dispensed by Mrs R. Wallwork, Mrs Baxter and Mrs J. G. Collins. Mr Cyru» Williams (president of the Art Society) in the course of a congratulatory speech, announced that the council cf the Art Society had purchased No. 56, a pencil sketch of The Old Town, “ Vaison la Romaine,” and No. 18, a water colour of “Avignon and the Rhone from the Palace Gardens.” At least sixteen other specimens of Mr James Cook’s art were also secured by various art lovers.
